A Year of Short Stories and Collections (so far)

With August being my birthday month, I often take stock of how the year is going in all kinds of ways. Since this website focuses on my fiction, that’s where my thoughts turned today.

I didn’t especially plan it as 2021 came into focus through the chaos and confusion toward the end of the decade of 2020, but this has turned into The Year of Short Stories and Collections. And I’m having all kinds of fun with the writing and the publishing.

Discover Cave Creek: Where the Unexpected Meets the Real World

We’re tickled to announce SP authors Jason A. Adams and Kari Kilgore both have stories in the new shared world series Cave Creek! Jason has two in Bitter Mountain Moonlight, and Kari has one in Open Ended Threat.

Kari dug into her nerdy fascination with flowers and pollinators for “An Impossible Desert Flower,” with a heavy dose of a lifelong love of all things Twilight Zone shared by everyone at Spiral Publishing.

For Jason’s two stories, “Writing the Past” and “Two Si’s for Sister Sally,” he called on his own memories of a landscape both beautiful and hellish, where life outdoors could kill a person. Or give them great opportunity. Both involve finding hope in the future.

Far Southwest Virginia on Blue Ridge PBS!

Blue Ridge PBS’s wonderful show “Write Around the Corner” recently visited the Mountain Heritage Museum and Gallery right here in St. Paul, and the segment is now online!

They visited with Frank Kilgore, the author of SP’s Far Southwest Virginia: A Postcard and Photographic Journey, to talk about the book and tour the museum.

We sure do appreciate the visit, and we hope you enjoy the show!

The Occasional Bookstore Right Here in St. Paul!

Local-ish folks, Spiral Publishing authors Jason A. Adams and Kari Kilgore will be out and about for the holidays! We’re launching The Occasional Bookstore right here in St. Paul, Virginia, based at the Mountain Heritage Museum and Gallery.

These dates are a perfect chance to shop local with us and other great small businesses around town!

Indie Author Day October 12, and 35 Holiday Short Stories!

Jason and I will both be out and about this Saturday, October 12, for Indie Author Day!

I’ll be at the Russell County Public Library in Lebanon from 10 to 3. Jason will be at the Arts Depot in Abingdon for a kid-themed day from 10-2.

Speaking of November, Jason and I are part of a wonderful holiday-themed project that will feature 35 short stories by some of our favorite writers and good friends! And these range from sweet holiday romances to moving winter holiday tales all the way to bloody holiday mysteries, so no matter your own feelings about this time of year, we’ve got you covered.

Johnson City ZineFest tonight!

SP authors Kari Kilgore and Jason A. Adams will be joining in the fun with a whole bunch of other great artists at the fifth Johnson City ZineFest, just down the road in Johnson City, Tennessee!

Join us tonight, August 24, 2019, from 6 pm to 10 pm, at The Willow Tree Coffee House & Music Room right downtown.
